The names of geographical places in most languages are old elements of each language, study of the place names in any language or any region, can help a lot to know that language. Toponymy is the science of studying geographical names, which is a kind of sub-branch of linguistics and has its principles and rules. The main question of this research is what rules and mechanisms are involved in the construction of water-related names in Iran. In this research, among all the place names of Iran, the place names that were created to refer to the "spring" and are used as the name for village, have been examined. The purpose of this article is to examine the names of the regions in which Cheshme play an essential role in naming them. The body of names examined in this article was obtained from the statistical center of Iran’s portal. The result of the research shows that "spring" plays an essential role in the construction of place names in Iran, and in its naming, the color of the soil or spring Background, the taste of the water, the name of the spring's builder, the dimensions and size of the spring, the natural location of the spring, the environmental conditions governing the spring, such as the existence animals like partridge, deer, eagle. Also, trees such as mulberry, fig, and willow play essential play a role.
