Introduction: Foehn winds are among the medium-scale mountain weather phenomena that cause temperature increase and numerous social and environmental effects, including fires. In addition to air pollution and environmental destruction, the occurrence of this phenomenon brings huge economic losses.
Objectives: The aim of this research is to classify the synoptic pattern that creates the Foehn winds and to help in forecasting and warnings necessary to prevent the creation of fires and their spread in the future.
Methodology: Therefore, the days with Foehn wind from 1392 to 1400 were identified based on the criterion of temperature increase compared to the 40-year period (1981 to 2020) in Rasht County.
Geographical Context: The study area of this research is Rasht County.
Results: The results of the classification of geopotential height values of 500 hPa on days with medium, severity and very severity Foehn winds showed that 4, 3 and 1 components explained 95.084, 94.732 and 89.803 percent of the total data variance, respectively. So that the first to fourth components of moderate Foehn wind are 35.63, 33.48, 13.776 and 12.198 percent of variance, the first to third components of severity Foehn wind are 39.505, 30.042
Conclusion: Considering the adverse effects of the Foehn wind, such as the transfer of dust, smoke from fires, and heat on the population living in the plains, in addition to the necessary weather warnings, people living in the foothills and forest areas should avoid burning materials and take necessary precautions to prevent fire.
