Introduction: Creating sidewalks with the aim of meeting the needs of tourism industry introduce the texture to tourists is one of the measures that can be considered for regeneration and protection of the texture. The ability to attract tourism not only is beneficial for inhabitants, but also can be regarded as an essential solution tothe conservation problems of the texture. Given that, today, the role of pedestrians in the city and especially the ancient textures is much less addressed than before, this study seeks to find the solutions for the design of sidewalks in historical textures.
Objectives: The purpose of this study is to identify the principles and criteria for designing a sidewalk as an effective factor in promoting the historical-cultural essence of the neighborhood to attract tourists, increase attendance and revive the historical context. The case study in this research is the historical-tourism texture of Imam Street in Semnan.
Methodology: First, after the data collection,using integrated analysis of "SWOT", internal factors (strengths and weaknesses) and external factors (opportunities and threats) affecting the transformation of Imam Street Semnan w identified. . Next, the opinions of 10 experts in the field of urban planning and restoration of historic buildings were used for weighting the criteriaby the Delphi method. Then, using previous studies and experiences, qualitative criteria affecting the viability were extracted and prioritized using the AHP method of hierarchical analysis.
Geographical Context: The study area is historical-tourism texture of Imam street in Semnan city.
Result and Discussion: The results showed that the historical part of Imam Semnan Street can take advantage of opportunities and have the potential to become a footpath. The quality criteria for improvement of the studied sidewalk were prioritized using Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), which include permeability and accessibility, diversity of use and activity, texture structure and route, respectively.
Conclusion: Ultimately, based on studies and analysis, a proposed plan to improve the pedestrian capacity of the area is presented, which can provide a suitable environment to facilitate and encourage walking and tourism development.
